last few days

Last couple of days I've just been trying to relax. Have been quite drained after all of that uphill walking.

Anyway to get this blog up to date I'll finish off where I last left off.

After we had finished that large hike, we spent a night in Muktinath, a decent sized religious city with a large temples and monasteries in it. It was especially busy there since the Hindu holiday of Dasain is beginning, where many Hindu's make there way back to their home villages, and eat lots of meat. We would have liked to spend time seeing these but we were entirely exhausted so we retired ourselves to bed for the night.

The next morning we woke up early and caught a jeep. ( ill insert a picture here later as i can't seem to get this computer to work properly>.<). This ride was bumpy to say the least, and nerve racking at times because there is often a steep cliff a couple feet away from where you're driving.

We got off the jeep at Jomsom where we had to walk through the city to connect to another bus. We waited about an hour for our bus, which never did show up, then decided to rent a jeep, and get other tourists to divide the costs with us. This ride was again very bumpy, but again not that bad. We drove through streams and waterfalls etc. Seems to be the norm here lol. As we were getting near to our destination we were stopped by a large traffic jam. There was apparently a landslide on the rode and we could go no further. We had to get off of the jeep grab our bags and cross where this landslide was on foot which was slightly nerve racking.

(insert landslide photo here)

We eventually made it to the transfer town ( forget the name). It was very crowded and chaotic here since all of the busses and jeeps were jammed up at the landslide, so there was a large amount of people who were waiting for transportation just like us.

Long story short we spent 6 hours here then eventually got on a bus, which was very very uncomfortable. I was squeezed onto a bench with 5 other people, facing the back of a bus, with no where to lean back. By far the bumpiest ride of my life. There was a woman puking out the window on my right, and people surrounding me on all sides. Sweaty to say the least lol. After what seemed like forever we made it there and retired for a night in one of the worst rooms we have had so far.

Anyway we took one more bus and made it here to Pokhara, Nepal. A pretty laid back lake side city. We stayed at a really awesome hotel for 3 nights, it had a balcony, fairly spacious sleeping quarters, and our own bathroom! I know it really isnt that great but after staying at all of these shanty places it really seems 5* lol.

( not sure if i have pic )

So I have been trying to get my fill of non-rice/lentil food while i can. Have eaten a bunch of pizza, pasta, tandoori foods, and chinese food. It has all been fairly good for the most part but by far the best food i've eaten here is the tandoori chicken and garlic naan bread.

Our 3 nights at the little Tibetan hotel has expired so we are still in Pokhara staying at the Amrit hotel which is not quite as nice, but clean and has nice location beside the lake. We intend to stay here until the 16th and which at that point we will head back to Kathmandu. We are staying at the same hotel as we did before we left, we have nothing really planned for the rest of our Nepal stay so we are likely going to figure everything out on the fly. Hopefully we can find somethign fun to do for my birthday which i will be spending in kathmandu.

As for me right now, i'm going white water rafting, which should be fun. I havn't really done anything of the sort, but i'd imagine i should do fine. I dont think i'll be able to get any photos ( just because of the sheer aquatic nature of the activity lol) but ill see what i can do.

till next time
Cheers
-Jacques
